  1. Dec 15th 2003 Congratulations Georgia Tech Graduates
    EmperorLinux gives hearty congratulations to its collection of recent graduates from Georgia Tech! This past Saturday, Sonny Rao received his Bachelors Degree in Computer Science, former employee Ola Nordstrom received his Masters Degree in Computer Science, and Adriane Durey received her Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering. Congratulations graduates!
  2. Dec 11th 2003 EmperorLinux Tarantula Upgraded to T2 Series
    The Tarantula gets an upgrade! The addition of the T2 series brings the following options to the Tarantula: a 12.1" Active XGA TFT running X@1024x768, 900 MHz Pentium-M, 256-512 MB RAM, 40 GB shock-mounted hard drive, internal ethernet, and wireless. All this still fits in only 2.6 pounds and remains only 1" thin. The Tarantula T1 will continue to be available for a limited time.

    EmperorLinux has made the plunge, and is now EmperorLinux, Inc. Of course, this doesn't mean any change in the great selection and support that we provide for Linux laptops. It just means a new name that keeps up with our continued growth over the years.

    The Toucan (IBM ThinkPad T Series) gets an upgrade! The addition of the T41 line brings the following options to the Toucan: an 1700 MHz Pentium M Centrino, a 14.1" screen running X at up to 1400x1050, up to 512-2048 MB RAM, a 60 GB hard drive, and an internal CDRW/DVD combo drive. The Toucan T40 will continue to be available.
  6. Nov 11th 2003 EmperorLinux Raven Upgraded to X31 Series
    The Raven (IBM ThinkPad X Series) gets an upgrade! The 3.5 pound Raven X31 now offers: an 1.3-1.6 GHz Pentium-M processor, 256 MB RAM (expandable to 2048 MB), and a 20-40 GB hard drive.
  7. Nov 1st 2003 EmperorLinux Ibex Upgraded
    The Ibex (Sony VAIO Z1 series) gets an upgrade! The Ibex Z1VA now offers: a 14.0" Active XGA TFT running X@1400x1050x24, 1.6-1.7 GHz Pentium-M, 512-1563 MB RAM, a 60 GB hard drive, and a CDRW/DVD combo drive.
  8. Oct 30th 2003 EmperorLinux BlackPerl Upgraded to P4-Mobility/Centrino
    The BlackPerl (Sony VAIO V505) gets an upgrade! The new additions to the V505 line bring both P4-Mobility and Centrino options to the BlackPerl. Highlights of the current specifications include: a 2.0-2.4 GHz P4-M or 1.4-1.8 GHz P-M processor, a 12.1" screen running X@1024x768, up to 2048 MB RAM, a 40-80 GB hard drive, and an internal CDRW/DVD combo drive.
  9. Oct 15th 2003 EmperorLinux Exhibiting at LinuxWorld in January
    EmperorLinux will be exhibiting at Linux World Conference and Expo in New York, NY at the Javits Center from January 21-23, 2004. We'll be in booth 138, and we'll have a wide variety of our Linux laptops and notebooks with us and ready to test. Look for more details in January.

    The new Meteor line of ultra-portable laptop computers gets a nod in the October issue of Linux Journal in the New Products section.
  11. Aug 22nd 2003 Seven EmperorLinux Laptops under $1900
    EmperorLinux announces seven Linux laptop systems for under $1900. The newly introduced Tiger (Dell Inspiron 1100) starts as low as $1050. Versions of the Auk, BlackPerl, Gazelle, Meteor, and Toucan also fall into this price range. The seventh system in this category will be introduced next week.
  12. Aug 22nd 2003 EmperorLinux Introduces the Tiger 1100
    EmperorLinux announces the Tiger line of notebook computers. The Tiger is based on the economical Dell Inspiron 1100 Series of laptops. As configurable as its sibling the Rhino, the Tiger has options for: 2000-2200 MHz Celeron or 2200 MHz P4; 128-512 MB RAM; 20-60 GB hard drive; DVD, CDRW, CDRW/DVD, or DVD+/-RW; and a 15.0" Active TFT running X@1024x768.   13. Jul 23rd 2003 EmperorLinux Introduces the Meteor MM10
    EmperorLinux introduces the Meteor line of ultra-portable laptop computers. The Meteor is based on the sleek, stylish Sharp Actius MM10 Series of laptops. This half-inch thick computer weighs in at a mere 2.1 pounds while containing: a 1000 MHz Crusoe processor, 256 MB RAM, a 15 GB hard drive, on-board ethernet and wireless, and a 10.4" Active XGA TFT running X@1024x768. (A modem is also included.) The Meteor also comes with a USB cradle which allows you to treat the its drive as a USB hard drive while the system is powered down!
  14. Jul 7th 2003 EmperorLinux Gazelle Upgraded to GRT100 Series
    The Gazelle gets an upgrade with the release of Sony's VAIO GRT100 series! The Gazelle GRT offers a 2200-2500 MHz Pentium 4-M, a 16.0" screen running X@1600x1200, 256-512 MB RAM (expandable to 2048 MB), a 40-80 GB hard drive, and a DVD+/-RW or CDRW/DVD combo drive. The Gazelle GRX and GRV will remain available for a limited time.
  15. Jun 11th 2003 EmperorLinux Rhino Upgraded to D800 Series
    The Rhino (Dell Inspiron 8500 and Latitude D800 series) gets an upgrade! The addition of the Rhino D800 line brings the following options to the Rhino line: 1600 - 1700 MHz P-M, a 15.4" screen running X@1920x1200, 256-2048 MB RAM, a 30-60 GB hard drive. and a CDRW/DVD combo drive.     EmperorLinux introduces the Tarantula line of ultra-portable laptop computers. The Tarantula is based on the rugged Panasonic Toughbook T1 Series of laptops. Weighing only 2.4 pounds, the Tarantula includes: a 12.1" Active XGA TFT runs X@1024x768, 866 MHz P-III LV; 256-1024 MB RAM; 40 GB shock-mounted hard drive; internal ethernet; and wireless.
  17. May 22nd 2003 EmperorLinux Auk Upgraded to G40 Series
    The Auk (IBM ThinkPad G Series) gets a serious upgrade! The addition of the G40 line brings the following options to the Auk: a 2400-3000 MHz Pentium 4-M, a 15" screen running X at up to 1400x1050 with ATI Radeon graphics, up to 2048 MB RAM, a 40 GB hard drive, and an internal CDRW/DVD combo drive. The Auk A31p is no longer available from IBM.
  18. May 7th 2003 EmperorLinux Support and Announce Lists Launched
    EmperorLinux launches a collection of mailing lists. EmperorLinux customers will now receive support updates for their systems and distributions via e-mail (as well as the usual tech support avenues.) We will also host two open lists for the general Linux public: EmperorLinux-Announce will keep you up to date on new systems we install Linux on, new Linux distributions we will offer, and other new technologies we will offer to Linux users; Lincoln's Logbook will feature articles by our founder and president Lincoln Durey including cool tips and hints for laptop users, giving benchmarks on our systems, and talking about new Linux technologies for improving the lives of portable Linux users.
  19. Apr 15th 2003 Major Linux Distribution Updates
    EmperorLinux announces major distribution updates! Almost all of the major distributions have released new versions in the past month: EmperorLinux 9.0, Slackware 9.0, Mandrake 9.1, and SuSE 8.1. We recently began offering a Debian 3.1 option, as well.

    EmperorLinux announces the addition of the Ibex line of laptop computers. The Ibex is based on the new Sony VAIO Z1A Series of laptops. Some specifications highlights include: a 14.0" Active XGA TFT runs X@1400x1050x24 with ATI Radeon graphics, 1300 MHz Pentium M Centrino; 256-1024 MB RAM; 40-60 GB hard drive; and internal ethernet, wireless, and modem.
  21. Apr 9th 2003 EmperorLinux Toucan Upgraded to T40 Series
    The Toucan (IBM ThinkPad T Series) gets an upgrade! The addition of the T40 line brings the following options to the Toucan: an 1300-1600 MHz Pentium M Centrino, a 14.1" screen running X at up to 1400x1050, up to 1024 MB RAM, a 40-80 GB hard drive, and an internal CDRW/DVD combo drive. The Toucan T30 will remain available for a limited time.
  22. Apr 9th 2003 EmperorLinux Kiwi Retired
    EmperorLinux regretfully announces the retirement of the Kiwi line of laptops. Sony recently discontinued the VAIO PictureBook laptop series upon which this system was based.
  23. Mar 18th 2003 EmperorLinux BlackPerl Upgraded to V505 Series
    The BlackPerl (Sony VAIO V505) gets an upgrade! The addition of the V505 line brings the following options to the BlackPerl: an 1800-2200 MHz Pentium 4-M, a 12.1" screen running X@1024x768 (now with ATI Radeon graphics), up to 1024 MB RAM, a 30-60 GB hard drive, and an internal CDRW/DVD combo drive (which was in the docking station in the R505 line.) The BlackPerl R will remain available for a limited time.

    The Rhino (Dell Inspiron 8500 and Latitude C840 series) gets its first upgrade of the year! The addition of the Rhino 8500 line brings amazing new options to the notebook platform: 2000-2400 MHz Pentium 4-M, a 15.4" screen running X@1920x1200, 512-2048 MB RAM, a 40-60 GB hard drive. and a CDRW/DVD combo drive. Some specification highlights include: 10.6" screen running X@1280x768x24, 933 MHz Transmeta Crusoe processor, a 40 GB hard drive, an on-board CDRW/DVD combo drive, and internal wired and wireless ethernet.   27. Jan 27th 2003 LinuxWorld Expo Wrap-Up
    We've returned from an enjoyable trip to the LinuxWorld Conference and Expo. We spoke with a variety of people about topics covering playing with Linux laptops, laptop compatibility under Linux, tips and tricks, and what's coming in the future. Lincoln enjoyed being interviewed by CNET about Linux laptops on Thursday (follow the link then click on "Linux lands on laptops") and about "Why Wireless?" on Friday (still looking for a link.) A friend also pointed out this interview on ExtremeTech. We enjoyed our trip to New York and an opportunity to meet with customers past, present, and future!

    Most of our EmperorLinux staff leaves for the rest of the week to take part in the LinuxWorld Conference and Expo held in New York's Javits Center.     EmperorLinux regretfully announces the retirement of the SilverComet line of laptops. Sony recently discontinued the VAIO SR laptop series on which this system was based.
