  1. Dec 11th 2002 EmperorLinux Exhibiting at LinuxWorld in January
    EmperorLinux will be exhibiting at the Linux World Conference and Expo at the Javits Center in New York, NY early next year. The dates for the Expo are January 22-January 24, 2003. We'll be in the Rookery in booth R14. So, if you live nearby and want to check out our laptops and notebooks before you buy, come visit our booth and see portable Linux live!
  2. Dec 6th 2002 EmperorLinux Gazelle Upgraded to DVD-RW
    The Gazelle (Sony VAIO GRX series) gets an upgrade! The Gazelle is now upgradeable to a DVD-RW drive (from its standard CDRW/DVD combo drive.)
  3. Dec 5th 2002 Linux Distribution Updates
    EmperorLinux is now supporting Mandrake 9.0 and SuSE 8.1 on our systems. For those who prefer another distribution, Red Hat 7.3/8.0 and Slackware 8.1 are currently available, as well.
  4. Nov 23rd 2002 Linux Distribution Updates
    EmperorLinux is now supporting Red Hat 8.0 on our systems. (We will continue to make Red Hat 7.3 available for those who would prefer it.) For those who prefer another distribution, Slackware 8.1, Mandrake 8.2, and SuSE 7.3 are currently available, as well.
  5. Nov 18th 2002 EmperorLinux Introduces the Auk
    EmperorLinux announces the introduction of the Auk series of notebooks (based on the IBM ThinkPad A series.) The Auk is available with an 1800-2000 MHz P4-M, a 15" UXGA screen running X@1600x1200, 256-1024 MB RAM, a 60 GB hard drive, and a CDRW/DVD combo drive. This 7.7 pound machine is a portable Linux powerhouse.
  6. Oct 28th 2002 Geeks Cruising
    Lincoln and the WebElf are fresh back from last week's Linux Lunacy II cruise around the Caribbean. We had a marvelous time meeting all our fellow geeks; learning a little too much about the working of the kernel, filesystems, and Perl; and exploring fascinating new worlds. Many thanks go out to the folks at Linux Journal for convincing us to go. (Doc Searls wrote a wonderful pair of articles about the trip.) Be sure to check out the planning stages of Linux Lunacy III; by popular vote, it will be a cruise to Alaska.
  7. Sep 26th 2002 EmperorLinux Announces the Return of the BlackPerl
    EmperorLinux happily announces the return of the BlackPerl R series (based on the Sony VAIO R505). The BlackPerl R is now available with a 1000-1200 MHz Pentium III, a 12.1" screen running X@1024x768, 256-768 MB RAM, and a 30-40 GB hard drive. All of this (and much more) is packed into a stylish and slim-formed case and weighs a little over 4 pounds.
  8. Sep 16th 2002 EmperorLinux Rhino Upgraded
    The Rhino (Dell Inspiron 8200 series) gets another upgrade! The Rhino is now available with a 1700-2200 MHz Pentium 4-M, a 15.0" screen running X@1600x1200, 128-1024 MB RAM, a 30-60 GB hard drive, and up to two optical drives selected from: CDRW/DVD combo drive, DVD-ROM, or CDRW.     Thank you to all our customers, past, present, and future, who visited our booth at the Linux World Expo in San Francisco last week. We enjoyed meeting with all of you immensely! Lincoln was also privileged to take part in several interviews while we were at the show, one of which is available on CNET (just follow the link to "Gadgets and more at LinuxWorld".)

  12. Aug 9th 2002 EmperorLinux Brochures Available for Download
    Since we get requests from time to time, we've added a pair of product brochures to the website; they are available in PDF and GZipped PostScript formats. The brochures provide a summary of our services and most of our currently available laptop and notebook computers.

    EmperorLinux is now supporting Slackware 8.1 on our systems. For those who prefer another distribution, Red Hat 7.3, Mandrake 8.2, and SuSE 7.3 are currently available, as well.
  14. Jul 16th 2002 EmperorLinux Introduces the Ibex VX
    EmperorLinux announces the addition of the Ibex line, based on the Sony VAIO VX series. The Ibex packs an 850 MHz PIII, 128 MB RAM (expandable to 284 MB), 30 GB of hard drive space, a 14" LCD, and numerous connectivity options into only 4.5 pounds.
  15. Jul 9th 2002 EmperorLinux Rhino Upgraded to 2 GHz
    The Rhino (Dell Inspiron 8200 series) breaks the 2 GHz processing barrier! The Rhino is now available with a 1600-2000 MHz Pentium 4-M and continues to provide maximal Linux laptop configurability in about 7 pounds. (Click the Customize System button to see all the possibilities!)
  16. Jul 8th 2002 EmperorLinux Kiwi Upgraded
    The Kiwi (Sony VAIO PictureBook) gets an upgrade! The Kiwi MW now comes with a 867 MHz Transmeta Crusoe processor, 256 MB RAM (expandable to 384 MB), a 30 GB drive and an 8.95" screen running X@1280x600. All this still fits in a laptop the size of a video tape and weighing about 2 pounds. The previous model, the Kiwi MV, will continue to be available for a limited time.

  18. Jun 24th 2002 EmperorLinux Raven Upgraded to X24 Series
    The Raven (IBM ThinkPad X Series) gets an upgrade! While it still weighs only 3.5 pounds, this newer version, the Raven X24, offers an 1133 MHz Pentium III-M LV processor, 256 MB RAM (expandable to 640 MB), and a 30 GB hard drive. The Raven is also now available with optional internal wireless ethernet. The Raven remains APM suspend/hibernate compatible, as well.
  19. Jun 20th 2002 EmperorLinux SilverComet Upgraded to SR87 Series
    The SilverComet (Sony VAIO SR Series) gets an upgrade! Still weighing not quite three pounds, the SilverComet 87 now offers an 850 MHz Pentium III processor, a 10.4" screen running X@1024x768, 256 MB RAM (expandable to 384 MB), a 20 GB hard drive, and internal wireless ethernet. The SilverComet 77 remains available at an excellent price.
  20. Jun 20th 2002 EmperorLinux Toucan Upgraded to T30 Series
    The Toucan (IBM ThinkPad T Series) takes on the Pentium 4 processor! This latest version, the Toucan T30, now comes with a 1600-1800 MHz Pentium 4-M processor, a 14.1" screen running X@1400x1050, 256 MB RAM (expandable to 1028 MB), a 40 GB hard drive, and several optical drive options including CDRW/DVD. The Toucan is also now available with optional internal wireless ethernet and remains APM suspend/hibernate compatible. The Pentium III-based Toucan T23 remains available, as well.

  23. May 16th 2002 EmperorLinux Gazelle Upgraded to Pentium 4
    The Gazelle (Sony VAIO GR Series) gets an upgrade to Pentium 4! The Gazelle GRX now offers a 1500-1700 MHz Pentium 4-M, a 16.0" screen running X@1600x1200, 256-512 MB RAM (expandable to 1024 MB), a 30-40 GB hard drive, and a CDRW/DVD combo drive. The Pentium III-based Gazelle GR3 will remain available for a limited time.
  24. May 7th 2002 EmperorLinux Raven Upgraded to X23 Series
    The Raven (IBM ThinkPad X Series) gets an upgrade! While it still weighs only 3.5 pounds, this version of the Raven X23 offers an 866 MHz Pentium III-M LV processor, 128 MB RAM (expandable to 640 MB), and a 30 GB hard drive. The Raven remains APM suspend/hibernate compatible, as well.
  25. Apr 15th 2002 EmperorLinux BlackPerl Retired
    EmperorLinux regretfully announces the retirement of the BlackPerl R series (based on the Sony VAIO R505D/DS). The Linux compatibility of this machine has decreased in its most recent incarnations to the point that we are not comfortable offering it to customers as part of an out-of-the-box Linux laptop experience. We will continue to monitor the development of similar systems by Sony and, should they become more Linux-compatible in the future, happily resurrect this system. (Happily, this is now the case; see the news for 09-26-02 for more details.)
